ECONOMIC EDUCATION

The Hecht Foundation holds three funding cycles per year and considers economic education applications in a two-stage process:

  1. Expression of Intent (EOI)  open to all eligible projects / organizations. At this stage, you should be prepared to submit a short (300-500 word) summary of your project, its rationale, duration, budget, and requested amount of funding.
  2. Full application  invitation-only, for shortlisted projects / organizations in each competition. At this stage, you will be asked for details about your project team (including other funders), deliverables (key activities and measures of success), and supplemental documentation (including itemized budget).

To start the application process, please email education [at] hecht.org for an invitation to our online portal.

The Hecht Foundation is interested in economic education that advances public understanding of free market principles and their relationship to individual freedom. This includes the following types of projects:

1. OUTREACH & TRAINING
Student and teacher training through workshops, seminars, and classroom instruction in economics, entrepreneurship, and other classical liberal ideas in law and public policy. Projects may involve the development and dissemination of educational materials (teaching resources, websites, books, videos, etc.) to people with limited experience and understanding of these concepts.

2. PUBLIC POLICY SOLUTIONS
Non-partisan, evidence-based policy research and litigation that considers the relevance and application of free market principles to improve social and economic outcomes. The Foundation looks for think tanks and other independent groups with clearly defined strategies to communicate their findings in a way that is accessible to everyday citizens.

The Foundation prefers to fund individual projects rather than general operating expenses. While priority is placed on educational projects that impact Canadians, some international work may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
