Programs Receiving Funding
- Junior Achievement
has been supported by the Foundation since 1976. This
support has enabled it to pursue its vision: to inspire and educate
all children and youth across British Columbia about the value
of free enterprise, to understand business and economics, and
to learn entrepreneurial and leadership skills. The Foundation
supports the development of business and life skills among children
and youth at both the elementary and secondary levels. Some points
about the programs include:
- Interactive sessions with a trained business volunteer,
providing real life experiences
- Business Basics Program, which teaches Grades 5 and 6 students
the principles of hiring, marketing, production and other
business activities
- Student Venture Program, which allows students to work in
teams with business volunteers, take ideas and turn them into
active businesses by developing a business plan, raising funds
through the issuing of shares, operating the businesses, and
distributing the proceeds. Students and ventures have won
awards both provincially and nationally, and many go on to
participate in national conferences to encourage further entrepreneurial
development
To date, the Foundation has helped more than 24,000 students across
British Columbia to participate in these and other programs offered
by Junior Achievement
